CONCORD, N.C. (AP) - A Concord high school boys’ basketball coach has been arrested in Mecklenburg County on stalking and other charges.

Media outlets report that Friday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested 39-year-old Kenyan Bashyn Weaks on two counts of misdemeanor stalking and one count each of simple assault and breaking and entering to terrorize and injure.

Weaks coaches basketball at Central Cabarrus High School. He’s been suspended without pay.

Further details haven’t been released.

Weaks was a basketball standout and captain at the University of Florida from 1997 through 2000 and helped the Gators reach the Final Four in 2000. In 1998, he was the team’s top returning scorer and 3-point shooter when he was suspended for the first seven games of the upcoming season for violating the school’s conduct code.

At the time, the suspension came after a sworn complaint of misdemeanor battery was filed against Weaks by a female acquaintance. The complaint also charged Weaks with two misdemeanor counts of harassing phone calls.

Weaks also has coached at Florida Southern and Marshall University.

Weaks couldn’t be reached for comment. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
