Key vote expected in effort to oust Muscatine mayor

MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) - The Muscatine City Council is expected to vote Thursday on whether to take another step toward possible removal of the mayor.

The Muscatine Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2lEx5W7 ) that if the council were to approve a proposed hearing on the removal of Mayor Diana Broderson, it would be scheduled for March 23.

A statement of charges says Broderson’s actions have created unnecessary legal and staff costs and potential liability. Broderson and her supporters say the council is engaged in a political witch hunt.

Both sides would be allowed to present arguments at the proposed hearing. At least a two-thirds majority of council votes is required in order to remove Broderson from office.
