NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - A Norman man accused of killing his 2-year-old stepdaughter has been found guilty of first-degree murder.
The Norman Transcript (https://bit.ly/2n6zJki ) reports that Tyler Jay Young was convicted Tuesday after a week-long trial. He’s scheduled to be sentenced on May 17.
Police allege the toddler died in August 2015 after Young dropped his wife off at work.
Young told police he was attempting to bathe the child when she fell forward in the bathtub. He says he tried performing CPR on the child, and pressed her stomach instead of her chest, while waiting for first responders to arrive.
Medical experts say it’s unlikely CPR could’ve caused the types of injuries the child sustained, including hemorrhages to her head, and her pancreas had been cut in half.
