LUBEC, Maine (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard says a kayaker’s dry suit and personal locator beacon helped him survive when he was unable to get back into his 17-foot-long overturned kayak in Maine.
The Coast Guard says the 66-year-old man radioed for help on Sunday afternoon. A rescue boat reached him near Bailey’s Mistake, a bay near Lubec, Maine, the easternmost town in the contiguous United States.
The Coast Guard says he suffered mild hypothermic conditions from the 44-degree water, but that he had prepared for a worst-case scenario. His name was not released.
