GARDNER, Mass. (AP) - A woman who was trapped on the second floor of a burning building says her neighbor may have saved her life when he helped police officers pull her to safety before firefighters arrived.

Karmen Forrester says she was stranded by flames as a fire tore through her three-story building in Gardner, Massachusetts, on Saturday.

Her neighbor, Leo Gallant, says he had just warned another resident to get out when he saw her leaning out of the window. Two Gardner police officers were urging her to jump.

Gallant ran back to his home and grabbed a ladder. The officers used it to climb up to Forrester and help her down to the ground.

Fire officials say the home was completely destroyed, but no one was injured. No cause has been determined.
