LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles authorities say a suspect in the brutal beating of a 15-year-old high school student has been arrested in an unrelated case.
Evan Jimenez, a freshman at San Pedro High, was attacked while walking home from a friend’s house March 30.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Ricky Osburn tells the Daily Breeze newspaper (https://bit.ly/2r01ufr ) that 20-year-old Jaymel Williams told investigators about his involvement in the beating. The reputed gang member was arrested April 23 on suspicion of burglary.
Detectives presented their case to prosecutors Tuesday. Williams could face assault with a deadly weapon charges, or possibly attempted murder. It wasn’t immediately known if he has an attorney.
Authorities are investigating a second possible suspect in the attack on Jimenez.
Doctors say the teen will survive but faces a long recovery.
