PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Authorities say a man will be facing charges including aggravated assault and driving under the influence after a hit-and-run that injured a Philadelphia police officer.
Police said officers in northeast Philadelphia saw a sport utility vehicle driving shortly before midnight Tuesday. They said an apparently intoxicated 44-year-old man emerged and leaned on the vehicle, then fell onto another vehicle as officers approached.
Police said he then abruptly got back into the vehicle, and as officers tried to remove the keys from the ignition, put the SUV into gear and drove forward. Police said the vehicle struck the officer, and the fender fractured his left leg. Officials said the vehicle was later spotted and the driver stopped and arrested.
