ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) - Police in Maryland say a man was fatally injured when he was hit by a car in Ellicott City.

Howard County police say in a statement that the crash happened late Wednesday. Officers say 37-year-old Victor Fuentes Benitez of Ellicott City was hit in the road by a car driven by 27-year-old Zachary Beck of Woodstock.

Authorities say Benitez was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore, where he died.

Officers say pedestrian error likely caused the crash.
