ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York state is making $62 million available to help local governments upgrade their sewer systems and drinking water infrastructure.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the investments on Thursday. The money will go to eight different municipal governments in the form of grants and low-cost or zero-interest loans.
Cuomo, a Democrat, says the funding will help upgrade aging water systems and improve water quality.
Communities receiving the money include the village of Ocean Beach on Long Island, Champlain in Clinton County and the village of Corinth in Saratoga County. Projects include new water wells, water softening equipment and waste water treatment facilities, as well as upgrades designed to protect local water systems from floods and severe weather.
