COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - Authorities say the body of a missing man has been recovered after his canoe tipped over in Mallets Bay.

The Coast Guard, state and local police and fire departments began searching for the man on Saturday after learning that three men had tipped their canoe around 9:20 a.m. Two of the men were able to swim to shore but the third was missing.

After searching for about 5 ½ hours, divers from the Vermont State Police recovered the man’s body around 3:15 p.m. He was not identified.

Authorities say the canoeists were not wearing life jackets. They say the water temperature was 46 degrees.
