LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) - A former central Pennsylvania police sergeant convicted of perjury stemming from his 2014 arrest of a man for public drunkenness has been sentenced to seven to 23 months in prison.
Fifty-five-year-old Raymond Corll was convicted in Lancaster County in March of the felony count along with misdemeanor simple assault, false swearing and official oppression. A jury took more than 10 hours over two days to reach the verdict.
Corll testified during the prosecution that the man was staggering, but state prosecutors said video footage showed him walking normally and showing no evidence of drunkenness, although he acknowledged having had a few drinks.
Corll resigned from the police department the day after he was convicted. Defense attorney Heidi Eakin said he resigned to “ensure that police are respected in this county.”
