RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Prosecutors in Richmond have dropped murder charges against two men after a witness kept changing his story.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/2pJ1VtG) that Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Traci Miller said Friday that she had to drop the charges against Raheem J. Davis and Ralph A. Kimbrough Jr. The two had faced murder and gun charges in connection with the death of 24-year-old Javar Mayo.
Miller said a witness injured in the shooting was no longer reliable because he changed his story several times.
Police found Mayo suffering from a gunshot wound in the driver’s seat of a car in November. He died the next day.
The newspaper reports that Davis remains in jail on charges related to a burglary in September.
