SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - A Southern California man has been sentenced to 16 years to life in state prison for killing a 12-year-old boy over a graffiti rivalry.

Bryan Ocampo was convicted in December of second-degree murder for killing Juan Martinez, who belonged to a rival tagging crew.

KABC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2pMDdsc ) Ocampo apologized to the Martinez family during sentencing Friday.

Prosecutors said Ocampo stabbed Martinez multiple times in the chest before fleeing the scene in Anaheim in June 2011.

Police said Martinez tried to run away but collapsed from the stabbing injury.
