MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Dane County authorities say they’ve detained a person of interest in a fatal hit-and-run crash in the Town of Westport just north of Madison.

The sheriff’s office says in a statement Monday that no charges were immediately filed, but detectives had spoken with a person of interest who was in custody on an unrelated probation hold.

Deputies were dispatched late Saturday night to a report of a dead man on the shoulder of State Highway 113 at County Highway M. The sheriff’s office says the suspect vehicle kept going south into Madison.

The victim’s name has not been released.

The sheriff’s office is encouraging anyone with information on the hit-and-run to call its tip line.
