WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say police officers in South Florida shot and wounded a man who crashed into patrol vehicles and tried to run over an officer.

The Palm Beach Post (https://goo.gl/U2Qqd9) reports that 20-year-old Leonardo Anthony Matos was shot early Monday morning. West Palm Beach police say the man is expected to survive and faces charges of aggravated assault and felony criminal mischief.

Police say officers had been responding to an unrelated call near Palmetto Park when they noticed a suspicious vehicle with two people inside. When officers approached the SUV, police say Matos ignored their commands, backed into one patrol car, drove forward into another cruiser and then drove toward the officer.

Two officers opened fire, wounding Matos. The SUV’s passenger wasn’t immediately charged.
