SALEM, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police are encouraging motorcyclists to attend a free course designed to ensure they stay safe on the road.

The “Ride 2 Save Lives” course will help motorcyclists practice how to handle hazards and negotiate curves, among other things. Virginia State Police motor troopers will be on hand to assist.

The first course will be held Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. at 447 Dalewood Ave. in Salem. Courses will also be held June 17, July 15, Aug. 12, Sept. 16 and Oct. 14.

Organizers say participants must have their own motorcycle, a Class “M” motorcycle endorsement and be at least 18 years old. Motorcycles have to be street legal and helmets must be approved by the Department of Transportation.
