MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - Two young men have been convicted of tossing a brick through the windshield of a car on a Long Island parkway, causing permanent eye damage to a passenger.
A jury on Wednesday found 19-year-old Andrew Denton, of East Meadow, and 20-year-old Jacob Palant, of Syosset, guilty of assault, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.
Prosecutors say that on two occasions on Dec. 26, 2105 Denton and Palant threw paving bricks and cinder blocks at cars from a Meadowbrook Parkway overpass in Uniondale, striking two vehicles.
Denton’s attorney, Edward Galison, told Newsday the jury made a mistake. He said witnesses didn’t tell the truth and there will be “innumerable grounds to appeal on.”
Palant’s attorney said they were exploring all their options.
Both face sentences of 5 to 25 years in prison.
