RICHMOND, R.I. (AP) - Police say a man faces charges after a stray bullet caused damage inside a Rhode Island McDonald’s.

Police say McDonald’s employees had reported a “pellet” coming through a window and lodging into a wall May 11. Responding officers found it was actually a bullet.

Police say they traced the bullet to 26-year-old Shawn Lucente.

Lucente told police he was practicing shooting his legally-owned AR-15 rifle. He says he shot at steel targets with a brush pile acting as a backstop.

Police say Lucente had no idea one of the rounds went through the brush and landed nearly 2,000 feet away.

No one was injured.

Lucente is facing misdemeanor charges for firing in a compact area and firing across highways prohibited. It couldn’t be determined Wednesday if he has an attorney.
