MEBANE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina sheriff’s department is investigating the discovery of skeletal remains in a wooded area by state transportation workers.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office told local media outlets that workers with the N.C. Department of Transportation discovered the remains on Tuesday near the entrance to Buckhorn Flea Market.
Chief Deputy Jamison Sykes said while there has been no positive identification, they have an idea of who the person might be. Sykes said Investigators think the remains had been at the site for “at least over a year.”
Also, the sheriff’s office said evidence didn’t suggest foul play.
The remains have been sent to the N.C. Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh for examination and to make a positive identification.
