PINE GROVE, Pa. (AP) - Parents of a toddler who ingested methamphetamine in their Pennsylvania home have waived their right to a preliminary hearing on reduced charges and ordered to stand trial.
State police in April filed the charges against 26-year-old John Kemmerer and 24-year-old Leanne Popp.
Kemmerer waived his right to a hearing Monday on charges of simple assault and reckless endangerment after Schuylkill (SKOOL’-kil) County prosecutors dropped more serious charges including aggravated assault. Popp previously waived a hearing on the same two lesser charges on May 2.
Police say Kemmerer woke up to find the couple’s 22-month-old daughter eating some of the highly addictive, illegal stimulant in their Wayne township home.
The girl has recovered.
The couple’s public defenders haven’t commented.
