GWYNN OAK, Md. (AP) - Authorities say an off-duty Baltimore city police officer was shot while answering a knock at the front door of his Baltimore County home.

County police said in a statement Thursday that the shooting happened late Wednesday in Gwynn Oak.

Police say the 50-year-old officer was shot through the front door before he opened it. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.

Detectives are exploring whether this was a targeted shooting, but police say they don’t believe it’s connected to any criminal activity on the part of the victim.
