CHICAGO (AP) - An off-duty Cook County sheriff’s deputy inside a hair salon on Chicago’s South Side shot and killed a teenager who was allegedly trying to rob the business.

Chicago Police say the attempted robbery happened about 1:40 on Wednesday afternoon. According to police the female off-duty deputy was at the salon in the Englewood neighborhood when two people entered the business and announced a robbery. Police say at least one of them armed with a handgun.

The deputy shot one of the suspects, who was later identified by the county medical examiner’s office as 17-year-old Rashad Wells of Chicago. The other suspect fled the business and has not been captured.



Police said they have not recovered a weapon.
