READFIELD, Maine (AP) - Authorities say a Maine woman has been charged with aggravated assault after police say she shot and seriously wounded her husband outside their home in the town of Readfield.

They say 61-year-old Sally Ann Earl-Costello was held without bail at the Kennebec County Jail. It wasn’t immediately known if she had a lawyer.

Capt. Chris Cowan said 81-year-old Hugh Costello was hospitalized with a gunshot wound Wednesday. His condition wasn’t immediately known.

Sheriff Ken Mason had said police have responded to the home for multiple previous incidents.
