LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) - The Pennsylvania Associated Press Media Editors has named Emily Rolen, a journalism major who graduated this month from Temple University, as the winner of the $4,000 Ralph Flamminio Memorial Scholarship.

Rolen, 22, of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, was recognized Friday at the annual PAPME awards ceremony in Lancaster.

PAPME’s award, honoring the former editor of The Morning Call in Allentown and Coatesville Record, salutes an outstanding Pennsylvania college student who best displays the ideals of Ralph Flamminio - passionate about journalism and the First Amendment, and a champion for a better-informed citizenry.

Rolen was editor-in-chief of the Temple News from 2014 to 2016. Her staff won numerous awards, including several Keystone Press Awards and first place for best website and editorials. Rolen managed a dozen reporters and nearly 100 freelancers during her tenure, as well as the newspaper’s business, advertising, marketing, photography, video production, and interactive web design.

Rolen interned as a technology reporter for TheStreet.com on Wall Street, as a college correspondent for USA Today, and as a reporter for WHYY’s NewsWorks.
