HOPEDALE, Mass. (AP) - A 5-year-old Massachusetts girl has been recognized for saving her grandmother’s life.
The Milford Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/2pE8D7J ) that Olivia Braga, of Hopedale, was presented with the Young Hero Award by the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services at a town hall meeting Monday. The award is part of Massachusetts’ Student Awareness of Fire Education program.
Officials say Olivia pressed her grandmother’s Life Alert device when she suffered a medical emergency and fell in their home in March. The young rescuer then told her mother, who was taking care of a younger sibling in another room, so she could call 911.
Local and state officials heaped praise on Olivia during the meeting.
Olivia joins more than 300 children who have received the award since its inception in 1995.
