Pro-GOP group Club for Growth released its conservative scorecard for 2016, and Republican leadership appears to be lacking.
The scoring rates members of Congress on their voting record over the past year on economic and growth-related policies, including reducing taxes, Social Security reform, changing the tax code and other deregulatory policies.
No member of the House or Senate leadership received the group’s required 90 percent rating to receive the Defender of Economic Freedom award. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell scored at 74 percent, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy scored the lowest of the leadership at 69 percent, and House Speaker Paul D. Ryan was not rated.
Only three U.S. senators had the required scores of 90 percent or higher — Sens. Mike Lee of Utah, Ben Sasse of Nebraska and James Lankford of Oklahoma. Twenty-seven House members received scores of 90 percent or higher.
