Residents of “America’s Finest City” are learning of another reason to brag. In a survey released Tuesday, travel website Reward Expert found sunny San Diego to be the best U.S. city to vacation with children.

The Southern California locale was awarded the best all-around metropolitan area to vacation with children and the top spot in the category of best cities for playgrounds.

San Diego boasts “the most playgrounds per capita in the country” with 22 playgrounds for every 10,000 residents and the picture-perfect weather to enjoy them nearly any day of the year. According to USClimateData.com, San Diego gets rainfall only 43 days a year.

“As a father of two small children, I know how challenging it can be to have a successful vacation with the whole family,” RewardExpert CEO Roman Shteyn said in a news release.

“When choosing a vacation spot, parents want to know they’ll be taking their children somewhere safe, manageable, and with a breadth of activities to keep kids entertained.”

Washington, D.C., landed in the No. 5 slot for best all around and the top destination for museum going with the youngsters.

“With 30 museums per 10,000 residents, the kids are able to try their hand as scientists, historians or artists,” Reward Expert noted, giving a special recommendation to the National Children’s Museum.

Cities within a short drive for Washingtonians were a mixed bag, with Pittsburgh coming in sixth place overall and Philadelphia in 19th, but Baltimore faring relatively poorly in 28th out of 53 cities surveyed.
