GENEVA, N.Y. (AP) - The organizers of a 77.7-mile relays race around one of the Finger Lakes say a triathlon trainer from Syracuse died during the event.

Organizers of Sunday’s Seneca7 involving seven-member teams running around Seneca Lake say Brendan Jackson suffered a medical emergency and died.

Jackson was a triathlon trainer at Fleet Feet Sports Syracuse. According to the store’s website, he coached beginner, intermediate and winter triathlon programs and had 30 years of coaching experience.

Race officials say several racers, volunteers and emergency personnel attempted to save Jackson after he was stricken.

Information on his age and hometown weren’t available.

The Seneca7 begins and ends in Geneva, on Seneca Lake’s northern end 35 miles southeast of Rochester. About 328 seven-member teams participated.
