PHOENIX (AP) - A Hotevilla man has been sentenced to 7 ½ years in federal prison for a stabbing near Fort Defiance.

Prosecutors say 40-year-old Melvin Yazzie was sentenced this week in U.S. District Court in Phoenix.

Yazzie had previously pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon.

Prosecutors say Yazzie got into a fight with the victim near Fort Defiance on Sept. 8, 2015.

The victim was stabbed 18 times, but survived.
