HALETHORPE, Md. (AP) - Police are looking for a man they say struck a trooper with his car before fleeing.

Maryland State Police say 35-year-old Anthony Jason Schmidtman of Glen Burnie was in a van in the Wawa parking lot in Halethorpe on Saturday when he was approached by a trooper. Police say the trooper saw drug paraphernalia in the van and ordered Schmidtman to get out.

Police say Schmidtman ran back to the driver’s seat and tried to flee. Police say the van struck the arm of the trooper, who was standing in the doorway trying to get the man out. Police say the trooper moved and the van then accelerated toward the trooper, but the trooper was able to get out of the way.

Police are asking anyone with information about Schmidtman’s whereabouts to contact authorities.
