FARGO, N.D. (AP) - The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a concentrated effort to crack down on impaired drivers in its southeast region during the weekend resulted in nine arrests, 27 citations and 14 warnings.

The Highway Patrol targeted Ransom, Sargent, LaMoure and Dickey counties on Friday and Saturday with troopers working overtime. The arrests were alcohol or drug related.

Authorities say that last year, about 40 percent of all traffic fatalities in North Dakota involved alcohol. In the southeast region, about 50 percent of fatalities were in alcohol-related crashes.
