ATLANTA (AP) - The FBI will nearly double its staffing at Atlanta’s airport and expand its office space.

The Atlanta-Journal Constitution (https://bit.ly/2raNmEr) reports the Atlanta City Council has approved a plan for the federal agency to lease the additional space at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

FBI spokesman Stephen Emmett says the increase to about a dozen agents and task force officers means a significant increase in readiness at the world’s busiest airport.

The FBI handles hijackings, interference with flight crews and assaults aboard aircraft. Emmett says the agency also works with U.S. Customs and Border Protection on human trafficking and counter-terrorism efforts.
