RICHMOND, Texas (AP) - A man charged with the non-fatal shooting of a Houston-area police officer in the chest and face three years ago during a traffic stop has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.

Sergio Francisco Rodriguez pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated assault of a public servant.

He’s the last of three men charged in the October 2013 shooting of Stafford Officer Ann Carrizales.

She had pulled over a car when she was shot by a passenger, later identified as Rodriguez. Carrizales returned fire as the car fled. Carrizales was wearing a protective vest and was able to pursue the suspects despite the face wound.

A Fort Bend County jury gave one of the other men charged in the case life in prison. The third man in the car received 14 years.
