ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - The chairman and tribal administrator of the Tunica Biloxi tribe has pleaded not guilty to stealing more than $1,000 from a tribal organization.
KALB-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2qSHBdy ) Joey Barbry entered the plea in federal court. He’s accused of stealing money in his official capacity as leader of the tribe. If convicted, he faces five years in prison and a $250,000 fine among other conditions.
The government agreed to allow Barbry to remain out of jail as he awaits trial. Some of the conditions for that include submitting to drug treatment and counseling and being monitored.
He is being represented by attorney George Higgins.
No trial date has been set.
