FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Ten public libraries in Kentucky are receiving state construction grants totaling $20 million from the Department for Libraries and Archives.

Each of the libraries will get an allotted dollar amount annually for the next 20 years to help pay off construction debts.

Libraries in Clay, Grant, Henry, LaRue, Madison, Marion, Monroe and Russell counties are receiving the grants, along with the Louisville Free Public Library and Corbin Public Library. Four of those sites are building new facilities.

Terry Manuel, commissioner of the Department for Libraries, says the top need on grant applications from libraries in Kentucky is more space. Manuel says the projects will add 95,000 square feet of space to the 10 libraries.

Since 2000, KDLA has awarded a total of more than $44.5 million to 48 public libraries.
