MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - An investigation has found a Missoula man shot himself in the head as police were trying to question him and three others about an earlier report of shots being fired.

Ravalli County Sheriff Steve Holton says 29-year-old Jacob Paul Nicklawsky died Monday afternoon of his injuries.

Ravalli County investigated the shooting because it was witnessed by Missoula city and county officers who stopped a pickup Monday morning after receiving a report of shots fired near the county jail.

Holton says the occupants of the pickup refused to follow the officers’ commands. He says Nicklawsky grabbed a gun out of the pickup and shot himself in the head. He ruled Nicklawsky’s death a suicide.

Holton said the occupants of the vehicle had been using illegal drugs.
