PLUMSTED, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say firefighters found a body inside a burning car when they responded to a reported brush fire in a federal wildlife area this week.

Firefighters from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst first spotted smoke around 7 p.m. Monday in the Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area in Plumsted. They soon found an acre-wide brush fire and a vehicle with significant fire and heat damage.

The body was found in the vehicle’s driver’s seat. But further details about the person have not been disclosed.

Ocean County prosecutors say foul play is not suspected in the death. But the investigation remains ongoing.
