NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Police Department says its searching for a man who broke into a woman’s apartment, then drugged and sexually assaulted her this week. The woman’s infant son was home at the time.

Police say it happened on Tuesday afternoon in the Cypress Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn. The suspect, who wore a ski mask and gloves, somehow gained access to the apartment.

Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce says the woman’s mouth was covered with a cloth soaked in a chemical substance. The next thing she remembered was waking up with her clothes removed. Her arms and legs were tied with duct tape, and her son had been moved somewhere else in the house. The baby wasn’t injured.

Police haven’t released a description of the attacker. The investigation is continuing.
