WAYNESBURG, Pa. (AP) - A man shot in the foot by a Pennsylvania police officer first aimed a gun at the officer and has been charged with attempted homicide and other crimes.

State troopers are investigating the shooting involving Waynesburg Officer Charles Sochor and the suspect, 31-year-old Julius Hurt.

Police say Sochor responded to a report of an unruly man near the Greene County Courthouse about 1 a.m. Wednesday then chased Hurt when he ran. That’s when Sochor says Hurt pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at Sochor, who fired.

Troopers say Sochor found two handguns on the ground near Hurt, who allegedly fought with Sochor and had to be subdued with the help of other officers.

Hurt was in custody awaiting arraignment and didn’t have an attorney listed in court records.
