VERNON, Vt. (AP) - Officials from a Vermont town are urging the state Public Service Board to approve the sale of the closed Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant.

The Brattleboro Reformer ( ) reports the Vernon Select Board voted unanimously to write their support as the plant’s host town.

Entergy, the plant’s current owner, previously submitted a request to sell the plant to demolition company NorthStar Group. NorthStar promises to demolish the reactor and restore the site by 2030.

In a letter of support, the Select Board says they are confident in NorthStar’s ability to decommission the site and the company’s dedication to Vernon and Vermont interests.

Vermont’s attorney general asked to intervene in the sale in March, saying he wants to ensure the site is fully cleaned without costs falling on Vermont taxpayers.
