PERU, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say two people have been rescued after their boat overturned near Lake Champlain’s New York shoreline.

The Clinton County Emergence Service’s Office tells the Press-Republican of Plattsburgh (https://bit.ly/2qAC78g ) that a lakeside resident reported a possible vessel in distress around 11 p.m. Tuesday off the town of Peru, 135 miles north of Albany.

Emergency officials say the two had been in the 54-degree water for at least 90 minutes before being rescued. The man was treated at the scene and released, while the woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of hypothermia.

Authorities say the couple said they had spent Memorial Day weekend in Burlington, Vermont, and were on their way back home when their boat capsized.
