HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - A deputy in Mississippi was injured after a driver hit a patrol car during a multi-agency police chase.

News outlets report 33-year-old Alicia Holifield was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with felony fleeing. Marion County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Lance Poirier was airlifted to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle during the chase. Officials say Poirier is listed as stable.

Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel says Holifield allegedly stole a car from a dealership in Hattiesburg and was later spotted by deputies heading toward Marion County.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Trooper Brent Barfield says while attempting to end the chase, Poirier was struck and injured.

It’s unclear if Holifield has an attorney. Barfield says once the investigation is complete, Holifield could face more charges.
