LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (AP) - People planning to rent boats on a popular upstate New York lake will be required to watch a safety video before being allowed to take a rental vessel onto the water.

The Post-Star of Glens Falls reports (https://bit.ly/2pKDFuW ) reports the Lake George Park Commission’s new rules announced Wednesday also require boat rental businesses to review education materials with customers.

Boat renters will have to watch a 6-minute, 35-second video that goes over basic marine safety and navigational rules. Marinas will be given the equipment to show the video.

Dave Wick, the state commission’s executive director, says employees of the 28 marinas that rent boats on the 32-mile-long Adirondack lake will undergo an educational program to ensure they know about the new rules.

Officials say those rules were prompted by several accidents last summer involving rental boats.
