EAST ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) - Funeral services will be held week for a Long Island native who died in a house fire while studying in Ireland.

The parents of 26-year-old Grace McDermott tell Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/2pGaIyb ) that she was visiting friends in small town outside Limerick when the home she was staying in caught fire around 3 a.m. Monday. Irish authorities believe the blaze was accidental.

McDermott, a native of East Islip in Suffolk County, was a doctoral student at Dublin City University School of Media and Communications. She was a graduate of East Islip High School and the state college in New Paltz, New York.

Robert and Leslie McDermott say their daughter was engaged to get married next year.

A funeral will be held in Dublin, with another service next week at a church in Sayville, near East Islip.
