BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s family owned television station, WCAX, is being sold to an Atlanta company that owns more than 100 stations in 56 television markets for $29 million.

WCAX-TV reported Thursday control of the station would pass from the Martin family, which launched the station in 1954, to Gray Television, Inc., on June 1.

In a letter to employees, the Martins said they chose to sell because they believe they have done all they can with the station.

Mount Mansfield President Peter Martin says they chose to sell to Gray because it would take care of the station’s legacy.

Gray Executive Vice President Kevin Latek says they would “build upon WCAX’s strong foundation and six decades of success as we expand into Vermont, northern New York and northern New Hampshire.”
