A recall was issued for all Aunt Jemima frozen pancakes, frozen waffles and frozen french toast slices across the U.S. and one product in Mexico for potential contamination of listeria monocytogenes.
While no illnesses have been reported, Pinnacle Foods, Inc., the company that makes and distributes the breakfast products, said in a statement there was a positive test for listeria in their manufacturing plant. They are issuing the recall as a precautionary measure.
Ingestion of the organism listeria monocytogenes can cause serious illness and is potentially fatal in young children, the elderly or people with a weakened immune system, Pinnacle Foods wrote in its recall.
Symptoms associated with listeria infection include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
The recall applies to 19 products with any “best by date.” Those listed can be returned at the place of purchase for a full refund.
