TEEN ’OWNS UP TO’ TOSSING 68-YEAR-OLD WOMAN IN FLORIDA POOL

Broward Sheriff’s officials said in a news release that the 16-year-old boy turned himself in on Monday, telling investigators that he “messed up” and has to “own up to it.” He was with his mother and a lawyer. Nancy James told deputies that 200 young people showed up at Players Place apartments near Fort Lauderdale Saturday evening. When she tried to speak to them a young man picked her up, dragged her to the pool and tossed her in.

FLORIDA COURT APPROVES INSURANCE RATE HIKE FOR BUSINESSES

The 1st District Court of Appeal ruled Tuesday that the state’s Sunshine Law was not violated during the process where an insurance industry organization and state regulators came up with a rate hike. The decision overturned a lower court ruling from last year. Businesses started paying the higher rates late last year.

GIRL SAYS SHE STUCK FINGERS UP GATOR’S NOSE TO ESCAPE

Juliana Ossa on Monday told Orlando television station WKMG-TV that she learned the escape trick from visiting an alligator park called Gatorland. The girl was sitting about 2 feet of water when the gator bit her on her knee and calf at Moss Park in the Orlando area on Saturday. In a 911 call released Monday, a caller describes Juliana as having puncture wounds to her leg.

Gov. Rick Scott on Tuesday called the budget a backroom deal that makes “families think politics is nothing more than a game.” Legislators approved the budget this week and ended their annual session. Scott was expecting a successful year now that his friend and ally President Donald Trump is in the White House. But the GOP governor is at odds with legislators because they have cut funding for programs that Scott says are needed for jobs.

AUTHORITIES: BROWARD DEPUTY RUNS OVER SECURITY GUARD’S FOOT

Wendell Shepherd was arrested Monday and charged with aggravated battery with great bodily harm. According to an incident report, Shepherd was speeding toward the entrance gate of a parking lot and waved off the security guard’s signals to stop and then ran over the guard’s foot. Police say Shepherd was so caught up in the phone search that he never acknowledged the security guard’s injury.
