MESA, Ariz. (AP) - More details have been released about a bomb-like device a man allegedly was trying to ignite outside a Mesa home.
Mesa police say the man was shot early Tuesday when responding officers say he made suicidal statements, claimed to have a bomb and was attempting to light its fuse.
They say the ball-shaped device was determined to be four separate and individual viable explosive devices connected through one wick fuse commonly used in model rockets or fireworks.
Police say the four devices were made of metal and had the appearance of being homemade pipe bombs.
It’s unclear how much damage they could have done.
The man remains hospitalized in stable condition and police say he’ll be charged in the case upon his release.
Until then, police aren’t releasing his name.
