YORK, Maine (AP) - Police officers in a Maine town say their radios don’t work in more than a third of the area.
York police tell WGME-TV (https://bit.ly/2qLaM2v) that 35 percent of the town is out of range. The department says officers noted the problem during a mass shooting exercise at a high school last year.
York built a new dispatch center and added new antennas after realizing the system failure. However, the department says the town is still dotted with dead spots.
The police department is now proposing a $526,000 upgrade that will include buying more new antennas and receivers. Officials say this improvement could save lives.
A vote on the proposal is scheduled for the end of May.
