BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) - Utah officials say a teen driver will not face charges in the November death of a highway patrol trooper.

Box Elder County said in a Monday news release that investigations show that the 16-year-old girl who was involved in Trooper Eric Ellsworth’s death was not at fault. The 31-year-old had stopped to alert a driver of a downed power line before the teen hit him with a car.

Ellsworth died four days after.

County Attorney Stephen Hadfield says though the teen’s death did contribute to Ellsworth’s death, she had been driving at speed limit. The investigation shows no evidence of criminal intent or distracted or impaired driving.

Ellsworth’s name was added to the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial for officers killed on duty in Salt Lake City last week.
